Desktop Toys and Pets for your desktop!

Updates:

1.2 -

Added

  1.  Pet Rock - Does Nothing (left click for effect)
  2. Magic Ball - Input your prompt and it will tell your future!
  3. Doodle: Physics Edition - When you want to draw physics based things on your desktop!  Web version released: https://timesillusiongames.itch.io/doodle-physics-edition   Has a moveable camera, gravity sliders, and physics layers to customize physics interactions.

Quality of Life:

  1.  Basketball, balloon pop, and all future games that have high scores now have save files. Can be deleted using the delete save file feature. (Let me know if there are bugs with this)
  2.  Show borders button - Allows repositioning and expanding the windows. May have unintended behavior with screen edges.
  3.  Snap to Hotbar - Snaps any window to the hotbar.  May have unintended consequences with the behavior of certain wandering pets.  (Just reload them to fix this)

Scripting Fixes:

  1. Added "delete", uses backspace and delete key
  2. Added "scroll_up" and "scroll_down" to use with the scroll wheel
  3. Added "shift" uses the shift key.

Bug Fixes:

  1.  Bouncy DVD bug - still can't figure it why this doesn't work, even after rebuilding it.  Next patch I'll try something else.

Next Patch Release Window - By April's End (Will also include a slight page redesign which is why the new arrivals aren't gifs.)

1.1  -  Added Gary the Judgemental, Mushroom Wanderer, Balloon Pop! and Tiny Basketball

Includes:

Chicken:  Thanks to https://otterisk.itch.io/hana-caraka-animals-pack

Bouncy DVD Text: (Now legally distinct!)

If the logo gets stuck at the top of the screen, just restart it.   It's an odd bug that is currently not fixable.

Test(Godot Logo): (Not sponsored, just an Easter egg and proof of concept)

Gary the Judgemental:  Warning, may be snarky.

Mushroom Wanderer:

Pet Rock: Does nothing!:

Games:

Balloon Pop!:

Tiny Basketball:

Magic Ball: (Legally distinct magic eight ball)

Doodle: Physics Edition:

Draw with physics.  Use the help menu as some tools have specific rules to use.

While there are more pets and actual toys to come, I mainly made this so anyone could make their own projects and import them.

How to Use:

Open the menu by right clicking on the pet.  Change your pet, delete, or import new ones with relative ease!

Pets may support left clicking to produce particle effects.

For importing pets, you will need to know how large your pet is, ie 64x128, a unique pet name, and the path to your pet.  You can either type in the path, or click the button.  For your convenience there is a YourPets folder to store your pets.  Also, there are options for an icon and description, while these aren't necessary they are fun things to differentiate between pets.

Supported Platforms:

Currently supports Windows and Linux, appropriate exes are found in their folders.  You can delete the ones you don't use.

Note:  For Linux users, I don't have Linux and am not sure how well the transparency works.  I would be delighted to know.

Note 2:  For Mac users, I don't plan on Mac support for a variety of reasons.  However, I plan to release the source code at some point in the future.

Make Your Own Pet/Toy:

Import Note:  You can make your pet/toy as big as you want, but it may obscure your desktop.  If you need a good idea of how big something is, the test pet is 128x128.

Very Important Note:

Your pet needs to be added to a group called Pet, otherwise changing pets won't work correctly.

If you want to make your own, you will need to download Godot 4.3 or above (completely free on their website).  If you need help, there are plenty of tutorials and documentation.  If you want more specific help, or another example, see the credit below.  Remember, I believe in your abilities and hope to hear about what you've made.

In the YourPets folder I have included an example scene with code.  Please note, neither the scene or code should be used as examples of best practices.
